In our experiment  we tried to find the cause of the abnormal levels of ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. The relationship of these chemicals is directly responsible for the health of the nitrogen cycle. One possible independent variable is the amount of water added to the soil plots and the control could be adding no additional water. If one performed the experiment with water as the independent variable then the results would be similar to those found in the following graphs.

This is a graph of the normal amount of bacteria. The more bacteria in the area the more nitrate and the less of ammonia and nitrite.

This is a graph of the normal amounts of ammonia.

This is a graph of the normal amounts of nitrate. Nitrate and ammonia are linked, in that when ammonia is up the level of nitrate is down and visa versa.
