These might help you make your journey more successful and enjoyable - :-)

  1. Take a stick with you while going into the backwoods to make your way through the spider webs. It helps!
  2. Protozoa testing needs time. Therefore make sure to make a schedule before starting the actual process.
  3. Make sure all three plots are located close to each other in order to control for any environmental differences
  4. Do check the weather conditions every day.
  5. Keep a stable gram measure while sifting the soil. This would lessen the load of calculations.
  6. During the Uhlig extraction if the water level does not reach the bottom layer of the cups then make sure to add 5 ml of distilled water to the particular sample and the note the difference while calculating.
  7. When removing the qualitative filter paper from the funnels, pull out the outermost layers together over a trashcan.
  8. Cover the control with clear saran wrap instead of leaving the ground bare.
  9. Make sure all the Petri dishes are labeled before transferring any samples into them.
  10. Make sure all the sources that you use for research are reliable - .gov, .edu are the best ones.
  11. Make sure to clean all the soil core samplers before reusing them.
  12. Instead of coring the soil at depths 0 - 10cm and 10 - 20 cm, do 0 - 15cm and 15 - 30cm depths.
  13. While counting the protozoa make sure you do not mistake any other organisms instead.
